Sixth Form
When River Academy Sixth Form opens its doors to the first cohort of Year 12 students, we will be offering a blend of subjects and post-16 courses that will build on our programmes at Key stage 4 to meet the varied needs of our students and to prepare them for further study and employment beyond their time at school.
We will agree with students their own individual learning plan based on their personal aspirations for the future. Our offer will include a wide and diverse range of technical and vocational qualifications including level 2 and 3 BTECs, and a range of popular A level courses. Our aim is that there will be a programme for everyone.
We also recognise that it will be our responsibility to ensure students have the information and skills necessary to secure the best destination for them when they leave River Academy, and that they are equipped and confident to go forwards into their adult life.
To this end, individual learning plans will include a programme of sessions and events which will help them prepare for life beyond the Sixth Form including work related learning, enrichment, PSMSC (Personal, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education) and a period of work experience which we expect all students to undertake.
In addition to their individual learning plan, students will have extra-curricular and student leadership opportunities which we will encourage all students to participate in. Through opportunities such as these, not only will students grow in confidence and develop a range of “soft” skills ready for life after the Sixth Form, they will also meet fantastic people, give back to the school community and enjoy this important time in their life.
