Having recently spent four consecutive weeks at the very top of the national Sparx league tables, River Academy has outperformed hundreds of schools across the country. As a result, we have been invited to present to schools joining the Sparx programme about how we have achieved such great results. 

 

98% of Students Completing Weekly Learning Goals 

 

At the heart of this success is consistency — both the consistency of effort shown by our students who are motivated to achieve, and the consistent approach to ensuring students are encouraged and supported to complete their work.  

 

Week after week, 98% of River Academy students have completed their 30-minute weekly goals in both Sparx Maths and Sparx Reader — a rare and commendable feat across the national landscape. This high level of participation placed River Academy in the Top 10 nationally for both platforms for each of the four weeks, and we were frequently in the Top 3 for Sparx Reader! 

 

Based on our combined scores across both platforms, we were ranked as the top school overall. 

 

Sharing Our Success: National Webinar on 6 May 

 

As a result of this outstanding performance, Sparx Learning has invited Esme Myers, Head of English, and Laura Billingham, Deputy Headteacher, to deliver a national Sparx webinar on 6 May 2025.  

 

This event will provide an opportunity to share our school’s approach to engagement, motivation, and learning routines — helping other schools enhance their own practice. 

It is a fantastic opportunity for us to share what we are doing with other schools as previous Sparx webinar’s have been attended by over 150+ schools.
